WWF7 Thematic Session 1.3.4 focused on disaster risk prevention as compared to crisis management, which is more common in most countries. While emphasis was given to the Netherlands' approach through its Dutch Delta Programme, other examples were explored and examined for their strengths and shortcomings.

The session looked to increase awareness of the increasing disaster risks as a result of climate change, and to share and discuss perspectives on the issue. Michael Butts, Head of Innovations at DHI, presented on the use of Decision Support Systems for risk prevention and the approach being taken within the Flood and Drought Management Tools project (download the presentation here).
