Workshop in Myanmar: “From Data and Information to Planning”

Flood and Drought Management Tools Workshop in Myanmar, 5-6 September, 2016 by HAII

Hydro and Agro informatics Institute (HAII), as a key stakeholder of the Flood and Drought Management Tools (FDMT) project in Thailand, was invited by Prof. Dr. Daw Khin Ni Ni Thein, Director of the Ayeyarwady Integrated River Basin Management (AIRBM) Project to attend a workshop titled “From Data and Information to Planning” during 5-6 September 2016 at Summit Parkview Hotel, Yangon, Myanmar. The aim of the workshop is to enhance the levels of understanding around the possibilities and need for data and hydroinformatics in assessments of impacts and risks of climate change, droughts and floods in Myanmar and to discuss future collaboration between DHI, HAII, and Hydro Informatics Centre (HIC) of Myanmar. Further collaboration will be to organise workshops and visits to HAII in Thailand in December 2016 to share HAII’s working experiences and visit  the HAII office.

On 5 September 2016, during Seminar of higher level policy and technical staff, HAII, represented  by Dr. Royol Chitradon (Director of HAII), was presented HAII’s experiences in National Hydroinformatics and Climate Data Center (NHC) in Thailand with the subject of concept, function and development of NHC and also examples of NHC operations.   On 6 September 2016, during Technical workshop for technical staff and specialist. Mr. Watin Thanathanphon, Assistant Researcher, Hydroinformatics Division, HAII was presented Data acquisition and integration in Thailand (pre-hydroinformatics).

Further collaboration will be to organise the second technical workshops in Bangkok, Thailand in December 2016 to share HAII’s working experiences and visit  the HAII office.
